Frequently asked questions

Which activities can I record?

Running and walking, outdoors with GPS or indoors on a treadmill.

Distance isn't recorded outdoors

RunTracker needs location access to map outdoor activities. Open the Settings app → Privacy & Security → Location Services → RunTracker, and choose "While Using the App" with Precise Location turned on.

Does it keep recording with my phone locked?

Yes. Outdoor runs and walks use background location. Treadmill sessions keep running through an Apple Health workout session (when Apple Health is connected) or low-power location.

Can I record on a treadmill?

Yes. Choose Running or Walking, then turn on Treadmill on the Record screen. Distance is estimated from your steps when Motion & Fitness access is on, and you can correct it when you finish.

How do I back up or move to a new iPhone?

In Profile → Settings → iCloud Backup, turn on Back Up to iCloud. On your new iPhone, choose Restore from iCloud during setup or in the same screen. Backup uses the iCloud account on your iPhone.

How do I save workouts to Apple Health?

Profile → Settings → Apple Health → Allow, then choose what RunTracker may save. Each activity is saved once, and edits and deletions are kept in sync.

How do I change units or my body measurements?

Profile → Settings → Units for kilometers or miles, and Profile → Settings → Profile for height, weight, birth year and sex. These make calorie estimates more accurate.

Do I need an account?

No. RunTracker has no accounts: everything is stored on your iPhone, and iCloud backup uses the iCloud account on your iPhone. Earlier versions offered an optional Sign in with Apple; version 1.0.2 removed it.

Is RunTracker really free?

Yes. Every feature is free, with no subscriptions, in-app purchases or ads.
